Kate smith, copywriter
Kate joined M&C in 2018 and brings 10 years of nonprofit experience to her role as a copywriter. Her background is primarily in communications, marketing and membership with an international professional association. While there, Kate played an integral part in everything from member recruitment and retention efforts to writing and editing copy for email newsletters, a print magazine, social media, the website and more. She has also worked as the communications director for a national service fraternity and been involved with planning and promoting conferences and events.
Kate is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), the Kansas City Society of Association Executives (KCSAE) and Social Media Club of Kansas City. She is chair of the KCSAE Communications Committee and has served on the Nominating and Association Management 101 Committees. She also served as chair of the Branding Task Force that developed a new logo and website for KCSAE in 2014. Kate was honored with the KCSAE Allied Member Award of Excellence in 2019 and received a KCSAE Star Award in 2015.
Kate studied journalism and communications at Wright State University, received her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and communication arts from Park University and earned a Master of Liberal Arts from Baker University. Kate volunteers as a Reading Mentor with Lead to Read, is a member at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and is involved as a parent and volunteer at a midtown school. She is passionate about supporting the arts, education and community development in Kansas City.
